Ear Muffs

The birds who live in the penthouse out back had a surprise this morning. Just yesterday I was watching the bees feast on the apricot blooms. The snow inspired me to recall one of the great secrets of the world, ear muffs. I never wore them before; I thought they looked silly and people would laugh. A few years ago I was stacking firewood for my mother and it was cold. She offered me her muffs. They were leopard patterned fluffy things. I reluctantly put them on, being cold and not able to feel my fingers or ears or toes. Eureka! Ear Muffs Rock! My mom crossed over almost two years ago this April. One of the things I still have of hers are the fluffy leopard ear muffs. This morning was windy and cold and it was time to let the goats loose. I pulled the muffs over my ears and headed out to the barn. They were warm and I fondly remembered my mom. I opened the gate to let the goats run out into the snow. They looked at me and laughed...
