Comeback Time
Santa Fe.... Based in Albuquerque's North Valley, Navajo artist Rhett Lynch returns to the spotlight with his first solo show in five years. He unveils 20 new works at Joyce Robins Gallery in an exhibit called Indigenous that opens August 11. There's an artist's reception on August 18 at 5 PM. Lynch's new mixed media paintings, created as meditative mantras, are part of a series called Prayers for Healing. Each incorporates a base of gold foil that's covered by layers of acrylics and strips of fabric filled with sacred substances such as tobacco and sage. Lynch, who grew up in Lubbock, Texas, has lived in New York City, Arizona, Los Angeles, and New Mexico; in his current lifestyle he creates art, raises goats, keeps bees, and takes daily walks along the Rio Grande.
