Big Chief Third Phase is a very personal painting. The key image is taken from a Big Chief Tablet. Being adopted by a non-native family, I constantly searched for a connection to my heritage. Starting school in a christian elementary, I was the only person in the school with brown skin. I found comfort in the tablet I learned to write in. The tablet was my connection that got me through the day. In the background you see a traditional Navajo blanket. The bridge back home.
